What is Rhinophyma?
Rhinophyma is a skin condition that results in thickened skin and a tumor-like, bulbous nose appearance. Medical professionals commonly refer to Rhinophyma as a form of severe rosacea. Symptoms of Rhinophyma include extremely oily skin, bumpy skin, thick skin, blood vessel problems, and an enlarged nose. Rhinophyma occurs due to the slow hypertrophy of the sebaceous glands at the front of the nose.

“Dr. Yamasaki is amazing and did an amazing job. The first appointment with her planning the surgery she made me feel very comfortable with her knowledge and explained everything very thoroughly after hearing about the past surgeries I been through. She fixed my nose just as she said she would and I couldn’t be more thankful and happy with the outcome!”

Rhinophyma Treatment Recovery
Dr. Yamasaki gives her patients specific post-surgical/post-treatment directions during consultation. Patients should prepare for 7-10 days of recovery. The first 48 hours there is a strong sensation on the nose (similar to a strong sunburn) due to the raw surfaces newly uncovered. After that, there will be mild discomfort with bruising, tenderness, mild swelling, and scabbing. Patients are advised to not pick at the scabs and to let them naturally peel away on their own (this will take about 3 weeks). Patients are also advised to stay out of the sun, as sun damage so soon after treatment can lead to a reddish tint to the skin, something that Rhinophyma patients are already trying to get rid of. This is the final stage of your treatment, and it is equally important.
